Creating from scratch is fun.
It’s also time-consuming. Sometimes creating from scratch isn’t a viable option.
Projects with tight deadlines and budgets are almost a guarantee when dealing with client work. As freelancers and agency owners, we’ve all been there before. And as frustrating as those projects may be, sometimes they’re necessary.
For web designers and developers, there are ways to help alleviate some of the stress that comes with working on projects with tight deadlines or budgets.
HTML templates.
HTML templates are website templates that are built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These templates allow you to get to 80-90% completion on web design and development projects. The remaining 10-20% is for customization based on the clients’ brand identity and for gathering assets.
These templates are great for projects with tight constraints, because you only need a fraction of the time and money you would normally set aside for a custom design and development.
The best HTML templates are created with clean and minimal CSS code, so customization should be very easy. Whether that’s color schemes, fonts, or even basic layouts, as a designer or developer you should be able to go into the codebase and make the required changes.
There’s plenty of places that sell HTML templates. The best sites offer templates that work for many different industries. Multi-purpose templates are great for any service-based business. You also have specific categories like real estate, interior design, SaaS, and so much more. This makes it really easy to find the right template for your project.
Shameless plug, we sell HTML templates on our site.
Everything you see in a template demo is not necessarily what you get when you purchase the template. For example, there may be some images that cannot be included in the download file for licensing reasons. In this case you or your client will have to find images, whether that’s images you own, or images from royalty free sites like Unsplash or Undraw.
The benefits of using HTML templates are pretty straightforward. You save a lot of time and money. Not every project will be ideal for using templates, but a lot of them will be. The amount of time you save can be used for finding more clients, or for spending more time away from your business altogether. The amount of money you save can be used to hire for other aspects of your business, or for enjoying a higher profit margin.
As designers and developers, nothing is more fun than creating from scratch. But when the time comes to move fast and efficiently, HTML templates might be the answer.
